Veneers

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front side of teeth to improve the overall appearance of teeth. They are made of either thin plastic resin or porcelain and can be placed to correct poorly formed or mildly mal-positioned teeth, close gaps between teeth, mask internal stains, and restore partially broken-down teeth.

The Benefits

Veneers provide a very natural finish, offering a long-lasting cosmetic solution for misshapen, chipped or discoloured teeth. Porcelain veneers are also more stain resistant and durable than composite bonding, lasting for many years if looked after properly. The finish itself also mimics the light-reflecting qualities of natural teeth more accurately than other materials.

How it Works

Tooth preparation is minimal and confined to the enamel structure. The veneer is bonded to the tooth structure with tooth-coloured resin cement. Several visits are necessary to complete treatment. Do be aware that this is usually an irreversible process because it’s necessary to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to accommodate the shell.

Aftercare Requirements

Your gums may feel a little sore immediately afterwards, which is normal. This should settle down after a few days of careful brushing. Porcelain veneers are very easy to maintain, simply requiring the same dental care as your other teeth.
